Start Your Perfect At-Home Skincare Routine
Having good skin isn’t just reliant on getting beauty treatments in a medspa or a doctor’s office. In fact, the best thing you can do for your skin is to create your own perfect at-home skincare routine and stick to it daily. It will help moisturize your skin, keep it glowing, and fight off early signs of aging.
Creating a skincare routine that is both personalized and effective doesn’t have to be a complicated process, either; in fact, it can be a stress-relieving and straightforward part of your day.
Make sure you wash your face.
Washing your face in the morning and at night are critical steps in your skincare routine. It can help to keep the skin clean from bacteria and help ensure that your pores are not clogged. Simply wet your hands, use a small amount of facial cleanser (which you can choose depending on your skin type), and rinse off with warm water.
Don’t forget to use a toner.
A toner is a liquid that is fast-absorbing and can help to remove excess dirt, oil, and impurities, from the skin, as well as balance your skin’s pH levels and control acne. The toner you choose for your skin will depend on your skin type and what your needs are. Do you have acne? Is your skin dry? Oily? Sensitive?
Serums are great for all skin types.
Serums, such as those with vitamin C, are great to use on your skin. Not only will they help give a brightening boost, but they can also protect your skin from dehydration. Make sure to apply any water-based serums to your face before applying your daily moisturizer. Oil-based serums, however, can and should be applied afterward.
Try an eye cream.
Eye creams can be hydrating and are great for fine lines around the eyes, but when you apply them also matter. They should be applied before your moisturizer.
Apply acne treatments.
We all want to be acne free, and many of us may turn to a particular treatment. However, many acne treatments, such as spot treatments, should be used sparingly. Since they can dry out the skin, it is essential to keep in mind that you should take other steps to keep your skin hydrated.
Moisturize!
Depending on your skin’s type, select a moisturizer that addresses individual concerns (dry skin, fine lines, etc.). You may opt for different moisturizers based on time of day: a heavier cream for evenings, while a more lightweight cream for during the day.
Try Retinoids.
While some may find this step optional, retinoids can actually be helpful for those with spots, fine lines, and frequent breakouts. Make sure only to use them at night, though, because they break down during the day when exposed to sunlight.
Face Oils.
Face oils are available for a variety of skin concerns, and if you are using them, be sure you put them on your face last.
Don’t forget the sunscreen!
Every time you go out and are exposed to sunlight, you should apply sunscreen, especially to your face. Sunscreen should be used even on cloudy days or in the winter, as it can protect your skin against damage and prevent skin cancer.
