How to Throw an Alternative Baby Shower While Social Distancing
Right now, because of COVID-19, we are practicing social distancing and many are still self-quarantining, even as we begin to lift lockdown restrictions. You may be wondering how you can still enjoy one of the most exciting times in your life – the upcoming birth of your baby – and still practice social distancing or are self-quarantining.
With this comes another milestone that you may not have given much thought to until recently: your baby shower.
How will you have a baby shower with friends and family while practicing social distancing or while in quarantine? While having a traditional baby shower might not be a possibility in the near future, it doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the upcoming arrival of your little one – it just takes a little change of plans.
Have a Drive-By Baby Shower
A drive-by baby shower is a great way to have friends and family drop off gifts for the new baby – whether they be diapers, gifts, or even cash to help out (since it may be difficult for some people to go shopping right now!). Plus, you can also see your friends and family as they bring you gifts. A great way to do this is to add some decorations to the outside of the home, set up a gift-giving station by your driveway or curb, and pull up a chair (at a safe distance, of course!), so you can wave to those who stop by!
Have a Zoom Baby Shower
Zoom is one of the most popular video-chatting services right now. Because of the ability to talk to many of your friends and family members at once, this is a great way to allow them to share in on the fun while opening gifts or playing games. It’s as close to a face-to-face shower that you might get right now, and it still gives you the chance to have some face-to-face interaction with those you are close to. Want to add in a little extra fun? Send supplies, like those needed for games, to guests – that way they can be sure to join in the festivities, too.
Host a Shower on Facebook Live
A virtual event held on Facebook Live is also a fun way to host a baby shower. If anyone has dropped off gifts for you, you can take the time and open them over Facebook live, and you can even interact with those who choose to view the livestream.
Have a “Sprinkle Shower”
Another fun idea for having an alternative baby shower is to pick a certain time frame – such as 9 am to 9 pm, and have guests drop off gifts every half hour or hour. For example, you can have someone drop off a gift at 9:30, and then again at 10, and then 10:30, and so on. This will give the expecting mother something to look forward to, as well as an entire day of fun and surprises!
Another fun tip for hosting an alternative baby shower? Combine some of the ideas above into one. Host a day-long Facebook event and a Sprinkle Shower. Send supplies out to the guests and have a Zoom baby shower while opening gifts that were dropped off by friends and family. There are many ways that you can stay connected, even while in quarantine.
