Where Does Cellulite Come From?
If you are dealing with cellulite, it is essential to know that you aren’t alone. In fact, it is estimated that nine in ten women have cellulite, and many have tried different treatments, creams, and other techniques (think diets, juice cleanses, and even extreme exercise routines) to get rid of cellulite. But before you can really get rid of cellulite or have a procedure to help reduce or eliminate it (called Subcision), it is important to understand cellulite. What is it? Where does it come from? And what really works to help reduce the appearance of cellulite?
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is a normal skin condition where fat bulges through the tissue in the skin, such as on the thighs and abdomen, causing bumps and lumps in the skin. While this condition is usually harmless, many women find it to be unsightly and try to find ways to remove cellulite from their bodies. Whether or not you choose to find a way to get rid of cellulite, it’s important to know that almost every woman deals with it at some point in her life, and it is completely normal to have.
Where Does Cellulite Come From?
Cellulite can occur for different reasons, but it usually happens in three stages. The first has to do with the fibrous bands underneath your skin. These bands of tissue are made up of collagen, and over time they can thicken and cause stress on the skin (which is what causes the bumpy texture and appearance). These bands are permanent fixtures under your skin, so in order to really eliminate cellulite, you need to opt for a procedure such as subcision.
The next thing to look at when talking about cellulite is skin laxity. Not only age but many other factors as well (think tobacco use, weight gain/loss, sun damage, dry skin, genetics, pollution) can cause your skin to become lax and not as tight as it once was. When this happens, it becomes easier for your skin to show the bumpy bands underneath the skin’s surface.
Finally, the last factor is the fat cells in your body. Since women tend to have larger fat cells than men do, these fat cells push against the skin, causing it to bulge while pushing the fibrous bands down and away. This can cause cellulite.
While these factors can cause cellulite, it is important to know that whatever your size, you can develop cellulite – even if you’re a size zero.
What is Subcision?
In this post, you have seen the mention of a procedure called subcision. But what is subcision? Subcision is a procedure that can sever these fibrous bands, thus creating a smoother look in the skin, as the tension will be cut away. A small needle is used under the skin to redistribute the fat cells so that the skin has a smoother texture.
