Old Cesarean Delivery is a Thing of the Past!
In the past, having a baby via cesarean delivery resulted in delayed bonding for the mother and child and a longer recovery period for the mother. Now, a technique called natural C section offers a preferable option to women who undergo cesarean delivery.
This new approach to cesarean delivery encourages and facilitates immediate interaction between the mother and her newborn. Unlike the cold, clinical C section procedures of days’ past, the national C section often begins with soothing music piped into the delivery room. If the procedure was pre-scheduled, an educational video might also be shown.
Another distinction with natural C section is that anesthesia administration is adjusted to allow the woman to have immediate skin-to-skin contact with her newborn. Basically, attending physicians keep tubes and monitors away from the woman’s chest areas so that the baby can be laid on her chest immediately after birth.
Natural C section also uses a less invasive surgical technique. This gentle approach helps to decrease post-operative pain and speed recovery time. In some cases, the mother is given the option to view the birth of her baby through clear or modified drapes.
In addition, successful breast feeding is often associated with immediate mother/infant contact, and with a natural C section, this is encouraged. Experts say breastfeeding should be started within the first hour of life, and with traditional C section procedures, this was simply not possible since mother and child were typically whisked in different directions for post surgical care.
When it comes to having a baby, women have more delivery options than ever. Thanks to modern advances, even women who require delivery via C section can now enjoy the benefits of a “natural” child birth.
